World War III.: The Annihilation of Damascus

Author: Nevada York

When will the insurgent attacks stop in Iraq? President Bush declared the war over on May 2nd, 2003, yet two years later the death toll of American soldiers continues to rise. In a well-plotted attack last month, over fourteen marines were killed in a roadside bomb: A bomb strong enough to disintegrate one of Americas toughest tanks. From where are all the insurgents getting their state of the arts weapons and what will it take to stop the never-ending flow of terrorist into Iraq?

The United States has the nation of Syria in the line of fire given Syrias financial contribution to many terrorist groups. In June 2005, Lebanon with the urging of the United States and international pressure kicked the Syrian authority out of their country due to Syrias obvious opposition to Lebanon becoming a democratic nation. Democracy is a threat to President Bashar Assad hold on his totalitarian government in Syria and its in Assads best interest to ensure that democracy does not succeed in Lebanon, even more so in Iraq. How far will he go to keep things status quo?

There is a cryptic prophecy in the Bible concerning Damascus, the capital city of Syria. This scripture has intrigued many because it has yet to occur. In Isaiah 17: 1, 3 it reads, Damascus will cease to be a city, and will become a heap of ruins. Her towns will be deserted for ever . . . they will be places for flocks, which will lie down, and no one will make them afraid. The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus. Damascus is known worldwide as the nucleus of terror organizations: Hamas, Hezbullah, and Islamic Jihad. These terrorist groups are known for planning gruesome homicide bombings and other horrendous atrocities inside Israel.

The Bush administration has been rattling its saber to attack the terrorist centers traced back to Damascus from Iraq in order to stop the insurgency. Secretary of Defense Rumsfield has been on record discussing a Pentagon strike that could end the terrorist headquarters once and for all in Damascus. A possible nuclear attack would explain how Damascus would cease being a city.

Over four thousand years old, Damascus is one of the oldest cities in the world and it has never stopped being a city. The Word of God is infallible. A war will eventually break out in Syria. Could a possible devastating attack on U.S. soil or on our soldiers in Iraq cause a reaction from President Bush to destroy Syrias Baathist regime in Damascus just as he did in Iraq? The pieces of the puzzle on how the city of Damascus would be destroyed are coming together before our eyes.

Dont be fooled into thinking that Iraq is the only war on the horizon. Out of President Bushs own mouth, he declared the ultimate destiny of his presidency. On NBCs Meet the Press, Bush stated, Im war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign-policy matters with war on my mind. Again, I wish it wasnt true, but it is true. And the American people need to know they got a president who sees the world the way it is. And I see dangers that exist, and its important for us to deal with them.

It will be difficult for President Bush to stand idly by as the deaths of American soldiers continues to grow with evidence as to who is directly to blame mounts against Syria. The real mystery is what on earth will Damascus do in order to cause the calamity of being taken away from being a city? The only way I see it, the nation of Syria has two main foes: the United States and Israel. After evicting citizens from their own homes in the Gaza Strip last month, its highly doubtful that Israel would risk the global outrage it would face if it attacked Syria. All the experts and intelligence gathers agree that the United States is due for another terrorist strike. When that occurs, Im willing to believe that all clues may lead to the road of Damascus.
